CLERK NOTICES
The Voter registration and party enrollment change deadline for the February 5th Presidential Primary is this Wednesday, January 16th at 8:00pm. You may register to vote by mail or in person at any town or city clerk's office in the Commonwealth, but you must do so by the deadline (mail in forms must be post marked by the deadline) in order to qualify to vote in the upcoming election. Seventeen-year-olds may register if they will turn 18 on or before February 5th. If you are a registered voter at your current address and have returned your census, there is no need to re-register.
Absentee Voting
If you will be out of town or are unable to get to the polls on election day, you may vote by absentee ballot. You need to apply in writing in person or by mail and we will mail an absentee ballot to you or family member once we have received them (usually 20 days prior to election day); you may also vote at the counter at that time. Absentee ballot applications are available at the Town Clerk's Office, Library and may be downloaded from the Secretary of State's website at http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleifv/howabs.htm. Unenrolled voters need to indicate party preference for the Primary. Choose between Democrat, Green Rainbow, Republican and Working Families. Unenrolled voters now remain unenrolled after voting in a Primary. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot for the February 5th election is noon on Monday, February 4th. Absentee ballots should be available by January 16th.
January curbside pickup of nonburnable items is this Saturday
The next curbside pickup for large nonburnable items (i.e., appliances, metal furniture, etc.) is scheduled for this Saturday, January 19th. A $30 sticker is required per item from the Town Clerk’s Office (currently located in the Police Station training room). The deadline for the January pickup is NOON on Friday, January 18th. Check the Recycling Commission's website at westfordrecycles.org for other options.
2008 Dog Licenses
All 2007 dog licenses expired on December 31st, so it's time to renew your dog's license for 2008. State law requires that all dogs 6 months of age and older are required to be licensed. The cost is still $10 per dog (no fee for owners 70 and over) and a current rabies certificate is required. If you are renewing by mail, please include a self addressed, stamped envelope. The grace period for licensing your dog ends on March 31st and on April 1st a late fee of $25 will charged in addition to the regular license fee per town bylaw.
Precinct Information
Voting precincts remain as follows: Precincts 1 & 3: Abbot School, Precinct 2: Blanchard School, Precinct 4: Robinson School, Precinct 5: Stony Brook School; Precinct 6: Miller School.

Candidates need to collect at least 50 signatures from registered Westford voters and return the nomination papers to the Town Clerk's office by Tuesday, March 18th in order to appear as a candidate on the May 6, 2008 Annual Town Election ballot.
