CLERK NOTICES
Voter Registration Deadline
On Tuesday, September 4th, voters will be able to participate in the Special State Primary and Special Town Election simultaneously. Voters will be considering candidates in their respective party (Unenrolled voters will be able to choose a party for the primary) to replace Congressman Marty Meehan on one ballot and whether to fund the design, engineering, as well as the renovation and/or expansion of the Cameron Senior Center through a debt exclusion borrowing on another ballot. There will be two separate check-in tables and check out tables so be sure to go to both tables if you wish to cast a vote for both elections, as they will be on two separate ballots.
The Voter registration and party enrollment change deadline for both elections is Wednesday, August 15th at 8:00pm. Currently there are four official parties in Massachusetts that will be holding primaries on September 4th. They are Democrat, Republican, Green-Rainbow and Working Families. Political designations are not considered political parties. Unenrolled voters are registered voters without party affiliation and may participate in the primary of their choosing. If you are unsure about your party affiliation, please check with the Town Clerk's Office. The town election involves a single debt exclusion question and is available to all voters in Westford.
Precinct Information
Voting precincts remain as follows: Precincts 1 & 3: Abbot School, Precinct 2: Blanchard School, Precinct 4: Robinson School, Precinct 5: Stony Brook School; Precinct 6: Miller School.
Absentee Voting
If you will be out of town or are unable to get to the polls on election day, you may vote by absentee ballot. You need to apply in writing in person or by mail and we will mail an absentee ballot to you or family member once we have received them (usually 20 days prior to election day); you may also vote at the counter at that time. Absentee ballot applications are available at the Town Clerk's Office, Library and may be downloaded from the Secretary of State's website at http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleifv/howabs.htm. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot for the September 4th elections is 5pm on Friday, August 31st. If you wish to receive absentee ballots for both elections, please check the boxes for a primary and an
election under item 1. If you are an Unenrolled voter, please let us know which party ballot you would like for the primary.
Election Workers needed for September 4th
If you are interested in working at the polls on election day, please contact the Town Clerk's Office at 978-692-5515 or townclerk@westfordma.gov. Three shifts are available (Morning: 6am - 1:15pm, Afternoon: 1:15pm - approx. 9pm, and Closing: 8pm - approx. 9pm). Cancellations are a matter of course, so in addition to the 13 openings that need to be filled, substitutes are essential. An orientation session will be held on August 29th to help you gain familiarity with the process. Thank you for your attention!
Final Census Notices have been mailed
If you have received a final census notice, please beware that the law requires the Board of Registrars to move voters who have not responded to the current census from the active to the inactive voter list. This means that you will need to show ID at the polls and sign a form affirming your continuous residence at your voting address, unless you return your census form or final census notice as soon as possible.
August curbside pickup of Nonburnable items
The next curbside pickup for large nonburnable items (i.e., appliances, metal furniture, etc.) is scheduled for this Saturday, August 18th. A $30 sticker is required per item from the Town Clerk’s Office. The deadline for the August pickup is NOON on Friday, August 17th. Check the Recycling Commission's website at westfordrecycles.org for other options.
