ARE YOU COMPOSTING YET?

In 1993, Massachusetts banned yard waste from the trash in an effort to reduce volume, save money, utilize valuable organic waste, and provide nutrient-rich compost for home lawns and gardens.


  • Kitchen scraps, grass clippings, and leaves result in a rich conditioner that will produce healthier vegetables, flowers, or grass.
  • Applying compost to the soil adds essential nutrients, improves root growth, helps retain moisture, and will help to reduce water bills.
  • Composting benefits the environment by reducing the need for pesticides, protecting water resources, and reducing trash collection costs for the Town of Westford.  
  • Residents may purchase an Earth Machine composter bin at a discounted price of $45 by contacting Denise Seyffert at 978-692-6986.
