Undeclared Sulfites in Golden Smell Brand "Dried Potato"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - August 09, 2010 - Strong America Ltd. of Long Island City, NY is recalling Golden Smell brand "Dried Potato" packages with code DB35/TI02.7-2001 because they contain undeclared sulfites. People who have a severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume this product.

The recalled Golden Smell brand "Dried Potato" is packed in 6oz packages and were sold in NY, MA, and PA. The recalled "Dried Potato" is a product of China. 

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. 

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Market Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis by the Department's Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in the product, which were not declared on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reaction in some asthmatics; Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfites sensitive individual upon ingestion 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of the "Dried Potato" revealed that it contained 14.8 milligrams per serving.
