Dear Residents,

In response to the heat wave we are currently experiencing, we are working closely with Emergency Management, the Senior Center, and the Police and Fire Departments to ensure that those most at risk are contacted and are managing to adjust in their homes. We also encourage family and neighbors to check on the elderly to make sure that they are all right. Everyone should stay indoors as much as possible, conserve energy, and stay hydrated. Remember that pets also need extra water and are subject to heat illness.

You should be familiar with the symptoms of heat-related illness and seek medical attention or call 9-1-1 immediately if anyone exhibits symptoms of heat stroke:

·         Changes in consciousness

·         Vomiting

·         High body temperature

·         Hot, red skin, which may be dry or moist

Heat illness can be life threatening. Please also note that electric fans may provide comfort but when temperatures are in high 90's fans will not prevent heat related injuries. See the attachment for additional information.

It is also important to lower air conditioning to a temperature that is sufficiently cool but will conserve energy to avoid electrical brown out. A loss of power would cause many more problems for those most vulnerable.

The Cameron Senior Center has been designated a cooling center. We encourage you to take advantage of this site, if your home becomes too warm.

Contact me if you have any additional questions. Please stay cool!
