Meningococcal Vaccine
Meningococcal  (Meningitis) Vaccine Information:

About the vaccine:  There are 2 types of meningococcal vaccine on the market today, Menactra and Menomune. Menactra (MCV4) is usually given as one dose only and is licensed for ages 2-55 years. A second dose is needed for certain medical conditions and certain ages (see "More Information" below or your medical provider).    Menomune (MPSV4) is also usually a one dose vaccine and is licensed for people 2 years and older, but usually given to those over age 56.

Availability:  Most Westford Health Dept. vaccines are provided to us by the Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health (MDPH). MDPH determines the criteria for the population that we can administer the vaccine to.  These criteria can change due to vaccine supply and/or MDPH budgets.  Call our office (978-692-5509) if you have any questions.

Only Menactra (MCV4) is provided to us by the MDPH for Westford residents who meet the following criteria:

Ages:                all adolescents at 7th grade entry (11-12 years old)
13-18 years old for "catch-up" doses
2-18 years old who are  "high risk" (including certain medical
                             conditions, travel or occupational risk).

   Insurance:         no requirements

  Dates/Times:     During"Clinic Days"
(1st Monday and 3rd Wednesday of each month)

Appointments:    Required.  Call 978-692-5509 to schedule

Fee:                      $10 administration fee.  Cash or checks
(made out to Town of Westford)

(If you do not meet the above criteria, then you must see your Primary Care Provider)
