 In April 2008 Westford Fire Department suffered an unexpected loss when Firefighter Richard Green passed away suddenly. For the funeral ceremony a collection of pipers came together and piped "Richie" to his final rest. Out of this tragedy the Westford Firefighters Pipes and Drums were formed. The band is made up of firefighters and blood relatives of firefighters and stand ready to preform for those in the fire service who need it. The members took up the challenge of learning both pipes and drums and putting together uniforms. With the help of Westford Fire Chief Richard Rochon, these members were able to put 4 pipers and 2 drummers together for the first public performance in July 2008. In May 2009 the band made its first "official" Westford
appearance in the annual Apple Blossom Parade where 18 members marched down Main St. The band is wearing the Sinclair modern red kilts in honor of Prince Henry Sinclair's voyage to the new world, and the band crest is based Sir James Gunn who is reportedly to have died in Westford during Prince Henry Sinclair's time in Westford. The band has been made official members of Clan Sinclair. In memory of FF Green, the band wears a green hackle feather in their glengarry hats and their feather bonnets. The band is always looking for new members with a heritage to the fire service, the band stands ready to preform where and when needed.
