IT IS EXPECTED TO REACH 100 TO 104 DEGREES FOR SEVERAL HOURS THIS AFTERNOON. ACTUAL AIR TEMPERATURES WILL SOAR INTO THE UPPER 90'S WITH INCREASING HUMIDITY LEVELS. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO DECREASE SLIGHTLY THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, WHILE HUMIDITY IS EXPECTED TO INCREASE THROUGH SATURDAY.
A HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT.
It was determined that the Cameron Senior Center, 20 Pleasant Street, will be used as a cooling station for those in need, during normal hours of operation. There is an option to remain open later if needed. Signboards are being placed out to advise residents that the Cameron is open available as needed.
It was determined that Police and Fire, and COA would coordinate checking on elderly and at risk residents by phone or in person to check on status of water, AC, and health. Water will be made available for those in need, particularly those on wells should a power issue develop. A flyer advising of signs and symptoms of heat related illness as well as preventive measures, the availability of the Cameron, and who to call will be created and distributed by PD/FD to these residences.
A City Watch message is also being sent out to all residences stating the above, as well as a reminder to check on neighbors.
Emergency Management will be coordinating with the school in the event that a larger number of residents are in need of relocating from their homes and a shelter needs to be opened. The Police Department training room will be used as a temporary shelter if needed before activation of a larger school facility shelter.
